There is a small surprise at the end of this video...

While hiking in the afternoon, I came upon  this spectacular view.  This lone tree on the hill caught my attention and made me stop. The bright yellow field glimmered in the sun and the shadows were deep and intense. In the hills beyond, some of the green grass lingered; spring giving way to summer.

I wanted to paint this on top of a bright purple underpainting as the scene was mostly golden. Purple is the complement to yellow. In the places where you see the purple, is where I did not paint over the underpainting. This creates a vibration of intensity by having the purple next to the golden colors.

(As for the surprise...this is Nala the Cat, aka Dragon Lady. She is one of 4 cats and although she's petite and they are all much larger than she is, she rules the roost.  She imposes strict and swift discipline. She demands and receives respect.)
