Golden Splendor

It was mid-day on my hike through Niles Canyon.  I love the landscape of this area.  The colors in the hills…the greens of the trees nestled among the gentle, sloping curves of the terrain, cradling the grasses turned a shimmering gold.

Everywhere I looked on the landscape, I saw rich, amazing colors.  The cypress trees reminded me of Italy.

I started the process with painting a bright red under painting or background on the canvas.  I felt that the red next to the beautiful range of yellows and green colors would produce an exuberance and vibration of intensity by having the red next to the green (red's compliment) and golden colors. All the areas of red that you see is where I did not paint.
