This is one of my favorite trails in this park. It was summer and the beauty of the greens against the gold of the hills lay before me. This large tree was on top of this small hill and it’s many branches caught my eye.
This scene gave me a chance to try something new. I usually paint on top of either a bright red or purple or black background (underpainting). For this scene, I chose red and experimented by scraping away the paint on top of the red to form the trunk and branches of this tree.
I loved it! For me, it made this beautiful tree come alive, accentuating its grace and energy within.
