California Aspens

My family and I were celebrating Thanksgiving in a small town nestled in the Sierras. On a country road, on our way to enjoy a meal, we saw this line of Aspens all dressed in their Autumn yellows. Since Autumn is my favorite time of year, I knew that I wanted to honor these beautiful trees by painting them.  Since everyone was hungry, I quickly snapped some photos.

Back in my studio, I painted this scene on a solid purple background. The areas of purple that I did not paint over, allows the purple to show through creating a vibration between the brighter yellows and the purple. This made the scene come alive for me.

With the abstract representation of the foliage, with its vibrant, bold brushwork, I wanted to convey a sense of movement and warmth, inviting viewers to appreciate the beauty of the season. The shadows, which stretched across the ground, added depth and dimension to the scene. This piece embodies the essence of autumn and is perfect for those who appreciate colorful and dynamic art.
